Zion and Moab - 9-17-2005

Dion and I take a 9 day trip to Utah to hike in Zion national park and attend the 2005 Hummer Club off road trip to Moab. We took lots of pictures so this is broken up into 8 seperate albums for your viewing pleasure.

Zion and Moab - Part 1 | Total images: 70

Dion and I went to Utah for the annual Hummer Club event in Moab. On our first day out we stoped in Vegas for a drink with our friend Roger who happened to be there on vacation. We spent the night in Vegas then headed to Utah in the morning. Zion was the destination for a few days of hiking before heading to Moab.

Zion and Moab - Part 2 | Total images: 140

This is our first full day in Zion and we spent all day hiking the Narrows. The Narrows is a canyon hike and you spend most of your time walking in the river. We hiked about 7 miles in total and were pretty wiped out at the end of the day. The best medicine was a big steak and a bottle of wine.

More hiking in Zion. Today we did the Weeping Rock and the Emerald Pools. We had a late start and we finished early since the Narrows was a pretty tough hike. We treated ourselves to a fine dinner and a bottle of wine at the Bit and Spur in Springdale.

Zion and Moab - Part 4 | Total images: 39

Today we drove from Zion to Moab Utah. We checked into our hotel, unpacked and headed to, no less than, Buck's Grill house for the kick off dinner. This was the first restaurant that we went to in Utah that served more than beer or wine and we watched as an exact shot was poured and counted from a weird contraption on top of the bottle that counted and poured exactly one shot. Weird and expensive. Can't order a double or you go to jail.

Zion and Moab - Part 5 | Total images: 167

First day on the trail in Moab. We started off with a medium difficulty trail called Fins and Things. This would give us an idea what it was like to ride on the Moab slick rock.

Zion and Moab - Part 6 | Total images: 220

Today's trail was Hell's Revenge. This was a fun trail that turned out to be our favorite. Lots of great obstacles including Hell's Gate. We finished the day with a ride up the Lion's Back.

Zion and Moab - Part 7 | Total images: 124

Today we did the Golden Spike trail. We were lucky enough to have as our guide Dan Mick who mapped out this trail originally. This was a tough trail that just pounded us to death. By the end of the day the steering wheel had shaken loose and we had to wrench it tight again. A great experience.

Zion and Moab - Part 8 | Total images: 144

Last day of trail riding and we end the trip with the Moab Rim. A short trail that winds up the side of a mountain and takes you up to a view of the whole town of Moab. In the evening we went to the closing dinner at Bucks and the next day we drove all bloody day from Moab Utah back to California. The End.
